Machining Two Materials Simultaneously with Mill 4™-12KT Tangential Shoulder Mill

The versatile Mill 4-12KT covers many shoulder milling applications which we're about to show you. Now don't try this at home, but Jake's put this block of steel and block of cast iron side by side in the same vise, and now we're gonna cut these two materials at the same time.

Cutting Steel and Cast Iron at the Same Time

First, we'll do a circumferential cut with a three-millimeter depth of cut. We're starting on the side of the cast iron block then continuing all around the steel block and finishing on the cast iron block again.

Now it's going to get really wild. We're going to take a full slot with half of the cutter being engaged in steel and the other half in cast iron.

Finally, we're going to take a five-millimeter depth of cut full slot through the cast iron block first. Then, continue right through the steel block.

Thanks for checking out the Mill 4-12KT with me here in the technology lab at Kennametal.
