Conflict Minerals Statement

Kennametal Inc. (the “Company”, “Kennametal”) is committed to responsible sourcing, especially as it pertains to conflict minerals and compliance with Section 1502 of the U.S. Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (Dodd-Frank Act) and the Regulation (EU) 2017/821 of the European Parliament.  Furthermore, Kennametal supports the goal of ending violence, human rights violations and preserving the environment globally, including the Democratic Republic of Congo (“DRC”) and Covered Countries, and all conflict-affected and high-risk areas (“CAHRAs”).

Kennametal is a global company with its headquarters in the United States of America with a global supply chain.  Kennametal manufactures tooling and metal cutting products, produces engineered tungsten carbide components and advanced metallurgical powders, among other, related items.  Kennametal operates two smelters that have been recognized by the Responsible Minerals Initiative (“RMI”) as conformant to the Responsible Minerals Assurance Process (“RMAP-conformant”) and the Company is also a member of the RMI.

Kennametal fully supports the activities of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) addressing these risks.  In turn, Kennametal has implemented a compliance and responsible minerals sourcing program designed in conformance with the internationally recognized OECD Due Diligence Guidance to address risks outlined in Annex II of the Guidance, namely:

  • Serious abuses associated with the extraction, transport or trade of minerals;
  • Any forms of torture, cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment of humans, including:
    •  Any forms of forced or compulsory labor;
    • The worst forms of child labor;
    • Other gross human rights violations and abuses such as widespread sexual violence;
    • War crimes or other serious violations of international humanitarian law, crimes against humanity or genocide.
  • Direct or indirect support to non-state armed groups;
  • Direct or indirect support to public or private security forces;
  • Bribery, fraudulent misrepresentation of the origin of minerals and money laundering.

Next, Kennametal maintains a due diligence program that includes, but is not limited to:

  • Supplier engagement and education;
  • Supply chain risk identification, assessment, and mitigation of the above mentioned risks;
  • Disengagement with suppliers found to be non-conformant;
  • reasonable country of origin inquiry (“RCOI”);
  • Fostering long-term relationships with our immediate suppliers, while responsible development of new suppliers;
  • Training in the various facets of responsible raw material sourcing for relevant employees;
  • Responsible Minerals Assurance Process (RMAP) assessment every three (3) years to verify the Company’s conflict free status as a tungsten smelter and identify opportunities to continually improve our conflict minerals due diligence management system as a RMI member and TiCMC member;
  • Committing to transparency in the implementation of this policy by making available annual reporting, free and available to the public.

Kennametal remains committed to sourcing materials and components responsibly and requires its suppliers adhere to the same values related to human rights, ethical behavior, and environmental responsibility. Kennametal will continue to work cooperatively with its customers and suppliers to ensure materials procured and supplied support this commitment.
