Driving Automotive Fuel Efficiencies

Next time you’re driving, think about how Kennametal is driving every aspect of fuel efficiency in automotive production.

Cylinder Bores

Over the last few decades, the height of engine pistons has been reduced, in part, to lighten car weight. High pressures, high temperatures, short strokes, and higher RPMs, combined with shorter piston heights, increase demands on materials, surfaces, and seals. All of this means cylinder bores must be more cylindrical to prevent uneven combustion pressures in the cylinder head.

Our Romicron precision boring tool with closed loop boring means you can make simple and accurate tool adjustments one click at a time, down to 1µm. With a central dial, you can make adjustments to a single or multiple cutting tips. There’s no clamping screw or unpredictable backlash often found on conventional fineboring systems.
